Now 58 years old, Sir John Kirwan was, in the 1980s, the All Blacks’ first true superstar. Tall and strong, the player who hit 35 tries in 63 selections inaugurated the era of super-powered wingers. World champion in 1987, third in the 1991 World Cup, the New Zealander was then coach of Italy (2002-2005) and then Japan (2007-2011). He captured exclusively in Figaro.
Le Figaro. Since losing the World Cup semi-finals in 2019, the All Blacks look far from their best. What inspires you about this team?
John Crown. – This season was the worst All black We knew our entire game history. Two historic defeats at home to Ireland, and one in Christchurch to Argentina, a game far from level… It would be a blast.
Do you think New Zealand can be crowned world champions in France in 2023?
