Series said to be dead live longer: Surprisingly, Amazon is continuing the daily series Neighbors, which had already been discontinued.

Last July, the Australian series “Neighbours” deposited on television screens in his home country and the United Kingdom. After 37 years, in which nearly 9,000 episodes have been produced, the cult series has been cancelled. Reason: Britain’s Channel 5 withdrew as co-financier. It was no longer possible for Australian Network 10 and production company Fremantle to raise costs for a sequel on their own.

After initially unsuccessful attempts to find a new production partner, Neighbors finally makes a surprising comeback. Amazon jumps in as a savior when needed and has announced that it will be filming new episodes of the series.

Freevee and Prime Video are in charge

In Great Britain and the USA these will be shown via the ad-funded Freevee streaming service. A release via Prime Video is planned for Australia, New Zealand and Canada. Network 10 also holds the TV broadcast rights.

The first shot of the new Neighbors episodes will drop in early 2023. Those will celebrate their premieres during the second half of the year. Will definitely stay with actors Stefan Dennis, Alan Fletcher, Ryan Moloney and Jackie Woodburne. It is not yet known if the other familiar cast will return.

Return to Germany is still uncertain

Before all-new stories from Ramsay Street in Erinsborough, a fictional Melbourne suburb, entertain the Amazon streaming audience, the online giant also plans to make thousands of older episodes available on its platforms. It remains to be seen if this will also happen in Germany sooner or later. In Germany, between 1989 and 1993, a total of 844 episodes of “Neighbours” were shown on SAT1 under the title “Nachbarn”. After that, iterations continued until 1995.

Over the years, stars like Kylie Minogue, Guy Pearce, Jason Donovan, and Margot Robbie have all made their way onto the daily TV series. The aforementioned four did not pass up the opportunity to make a guest appearance in the supposed finale of “Neighbors”.
