New Zealand crush Australia to take rugby championship title
The All Blacks were probably the toughest. New Zealand, the big winner Australia (40-14) on Saturday, on behalf of the final day of the rugby tournament, took a huge step towards the cup. After tying with South Africa before the game, the Kiwis forced the Springboks to win an additional offensive point and a 39-point difference against Argentina on Saturday afternoon (5:05 pm) to prevent them from winning.
A class gap between the two groups
Unlike last week when the Wallabies bowed out at the last second after a very intense meeting (37-39), there was no picture during the revenge at Eden Park. If it took until the 21st minute to see Richie Muonga open the scoring with a penalty kick (3-0, 21), the blacks quickly followed up with an attempt by Will Jordan and another penalty kick to inflate the score (17-0, 27). Very undisciplined (two yellow cards in the first period), the Wallabies returned to the locker room on this score.
The second period began on the same grounds. Capt. Sam Whitelock, impressive on Saturday, made his point to score a bonus attempt (24-0, 43). Then Cody Taylor added substitute Samsoni Taukiyahu to the score (37-7, 65). Meanwhile, Folau Faingaa saved the Australians’ honor after a kick from Mo’unga parried and good negotiation by the Wallabies before Jordan Petya eased the score at sirens (43-14, 80).
The easy win and the nuanced difference in points put the All Blacks in a good position to win their sixth rugby championship in seven years.
