30,000 fewer deaths from cancer with vitamin D?

Experts: The death rate could be reduced by 13 percent

Vitamin D is often considered the miracle cure. The vitamin that we get from the sun, fish or avocado, It strengthens our immune system. However, vitamin D deficiency is especially prevalent among the elderly and cancer patients. Researchers have found that taking the vitamin can reduce the death rate from cancer by a whopping 13%. Cancer experts from the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ) make another great figure.

Researchers from the DKFZ in Heidelberg have now transferred the results of global studies to Germany. Thus, an adequate supply of Vitamin D from the age of 50 could prevent up to 30,000 deaths from cancer each year in Germany alone.

“In many countries around the world, age-adjusted cancer mortality has decreased fortunately over the past decade,” says Hermann Brenner, an epidemiologist from DKFZ. “But due to the often prohibitive costs of many new cancer drugs, this success is often bought at a high price. On the other hand, vitamin D is relatively cheap in the usual daily dosages.”

In any case, it is cheaper than the expensive cancer treatment.
