Prince William without Kate in the EM final – that’s why

The heir to the throne supported the female English footballers on the field. But in the stands, Prince William had to cheer without his wife and children.

It’s no secret that members of the British royal family are big fans of sports. Prince William and Duchess Kate in particular appear regularly in important duels in the stands. In recent years, they have taken their children with them from time to time. In July 2021, their eldest son stole the show at Wembley Stadium. Prince George watched the World Cup final between Italy and England with his parents. When the first goal was scored a few minutes into the match, the Queen’s grandson exclaimed with joy. His photos went viral on the internet shortly thereafter.

So Royal fans around the world were hoping to see the nine-year-old cheer the crowd at the European Women’s Championship final. Maybe even with his little sister. Because a few hours before the match between England and Germany, Princess Charlotte and Pope William sent a video message to their national team to cheer them on.

But at first there was a disappointment: Prince William came to Wembley Stadium alone. Even Duchess Kate was not there. But for good reason: the 40-year-old raced in the English Channel on Sunday with a British sailing team.
