Broadcaster Marcus Lash vying for a vacant seat on the Invercargill Board

Prominent broadcaster Marcus Lush is competing for a vacancy on Invercargill City Council.
Newstalk ZB announcer He walked with his partner Vanessa and their two sons, aged five to seven, from their home to the nearby Bluff Service Center, to submit the application minutes before nominations closed at noon Tuesday.
The 55-year-old, who has lived in the South since 2002, said he was urged over the years to run for council and even discussed the matter with mayor Tim Shadbolt.
“ It’s so easy to be in Invercargill and dodging … about what’s wrong with the place, but it’s a little different when you have to change it. ”

Describing his policy as “left-leaning,” Lash said he could present a new perspective on the council and offer “progressive ideas.”

He plans to continue hosting his national show, Marcus Lush Nights, every day of the week between 8pm – 12pm, and if he succeeds on the board he won’t confuse the two roles.

Next comes his candidacy Tony Biddle, a former deputy mayor, announced her resignation from the council again in October.

The council has made negative national headlines in recent months as tensions have emerged around the table.
This included the Department of Internal Affairs, which in August raised concerns about a major dispute. With Shadbolt later against the results of an independent review.
“The report failed to define a culture of individual superiority within a group of advisers who consistently aimed to score points against me and to seek publicity for my criticisms,” Shadbolt said.
His revolution came days after the board voted unanimously to accept the report’s findings with Shadbolt endorsing the movement.

Lush, who did not attend the board meeting, confirmed that he had read the report but had yet to witness Shadbolt’s performance around the table.

Along with the appointed council monitors, Lash said he wanted to learn the intrigues of the local government and “use some of their wisdom to find out what’s going on.”
Nominations for this vacant seat at the Board table opened on November 24, and the deadline is Tuesday at 12 noon.
Two confirmed candidates, Karl Heinan and David Pottinger, entered their nominations.
