Does science tell the truth?
There is no scientific fact, only scientific knowledge.
In fact, a scientific theory is considered correct, not conclusively but until proven otherwise. Thus science advances by “deepening and erasing” as Jean Cavallis, the twentieth century philosopher of science has argued. This can sometimes lead him to contradict himself. For example, the geocentric theory, which states that the Earth is at the center of the world, was replaced by heliocentrism only when new observations with more powerful instruments made it possible to confirm the position of the Sun at the center of the solar system. Scientific research relies on a rigorous method aimed at distinguishing between our beliefs and our knowledge. It includes experiments, calculations, and/or simulations, ensuring that results are replicable and around which there is consensus from the scientific community (eg, the Earth is round).
