Transjurassienne 2022. Japan, New Zealand, Germany… Where did the skaters come from?

More than 3,500 participants will put on their skis on February 12 and 13, 2022 for the Transjurassienne. A version that will mainly welcome European athletes, due to the pandemic linked to Covid-19.

The longest cross-country ski race returns in France. After two years of Covid-related downtime and then very little snow cover, the 44th edition of Transjurassienne is still eagerly awaited. And even if the Beijing Olympics overshadow the competition, the event still welcomes some 3,500 cross-country skiers…

Sanitary conditions did not facilitate the registration of skaters. Travel restrictions have caused some heroes to surrender. That is why the composition of Transjurassienne is somewhat European.

After France, Switzerland was the most represented with about 100 participants. It should be noted that Solén Favre was victorious at Belles-Combes. Among the European countries, skiers from Germany and Luxembourg are also present, followed by Italy and Belgium. Note the presence of the Norwegian Velde Riker.

Purely European transo? This is without relying on the North American founders. Nearly two dozen Americans will be on the starting line on Saturday and Sunday. Dozens of Canadians will also compete in the races this weekend.

New Zealand will also be represented with Silas Colin in the Transjurassic on Sunday. Japan’s Yasuo Kitano, the sole representative of his country, will also compete in the Queen event.

On Saturday, spectators will be able to watch a classic match between 2018 and 2019 winner Antoine Auger and Thomas Joly who finished second in 2019. For the women’s race, Switzerland’s Solén Fever will see her title challenged. Her bridesmaid, tricolored Lori Flochon Julie, as well as fellow countrywomen Maywin Gummer and Hannah Fine.
