The two presidents spoke in a joint statement announced by the Tunisian presidency on Thursday at the conclusion of the state visit paid by Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune to Tunis.

“Taking into account the lessons learned from past experiences and taking into account the gains obtained through relations between the two countries, the two presidents agreed on the importance of adopting an ambitious vision aimed at creating a new comprehensive and integrated regional space, based on shared values, in order to provide coordinated and effective responses to security and economic challenges and health and for all current and future developments at the regional and international levels,” indicates a press release issued by the Tunisian Presidency.

Abdelmadjid Tebboune arrived in Tunis on Wednesday morning at the invitation of his counterpart Kais Saied.

This is the first official visit of an Algerian head of state abroad, since he was elected president in December 2019.

According to the same document, “the two presidents affirmed their intention to consult on a permanent basis at the bilateral and multilateral levels in order to achieve the desired goals and take the necessary measures to achieve them on the ground.”
