Wales captain Alon Wayne Jones on his way to Operation Two

Wales club announced today, Wednesday, that Wales captain and second-tier Alon Wayne Jones will undergo a second operation on his shoulder after he was injured last month during the loss of the All-Blacks team in Cardiff (54-16).

Jones, 36, is the player with the most appearances in all international rugby matches, making 149 appearances for his country and 12 appearances for the British and Irish Lions, making a total of 161 Test appearances.

The second surgery is scheduled for two weeks, and the player’s expected recovery time is not yet known, said Toby Booth, coach of the Ospreys in Swansea.

New Zealand coach Wayne Bivak has indicated he doesn’t think he can count on Jones for the start of the Six Nations Championship on February 5 in Dublin against Ireland.

On the other hand, Booth and Bivack are confident Jones will be able to return to the field before the end of this season: “He’s very confident, he has the right attitude, the right mental framework, and we’ll put everything” together. So that he can recover as quickly as possible,” Booth promised.

The Ospreys’ triple-midfield quarterback Jonathan Davies took charge in Welsh’s second game this fall against world champions South Africa, then Ellis Jenkins took charge against Fiji and Australia.

Two other important injured players have missed Welsh matches this fall: George North (knee) and Justin Tiborek (shoulder). They are expected to return to their posts early next year.
