ABU DHABI, 26th August / WAM / The United Arab Emirates affirmed its commitment to strengthening global cooperation and solidarity by providing humanitarian and relief assistance to support international efforts to achieve peace, stability and prosperity in Afghanistan.

The UAE is currently playing an important role in the evacuations, as the number of Afghans and foreigners who have been evacuated since the beginning of August until now has reached 36,500.

On August 20, the UAE agreed to host 5,000 Afghan nationals who were evacuated from Afghanistan on their way to third countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of the United Arab Emirates, at the request of the United States, announced that it will temporarily host Afghans, after which they will move to other countries.

The UAE also played an important role in facilitating the evacuation of foreign nationals from Afghanistan. By August 26, the UAE had facilitated the evacuation of more than 28,000 people, in addition to 8,500 who had arrived in the UAE via local transport companies and UAE airports since the beginning of August. So far, the evacuees with the help of the UAE have included nationals from France, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Latvia, Spain and Mexico.

Working in coordination with the United States, the UAE has established a transit center and processing center in Abu Dhabi from which travelers from Afghanistan undergo health and security checks before proceeding to the United States or a third country. In coordination with the National Disaster and Crisis Management Authority, the UAE is working with the US Embassy team, including consular, customs and border officials, to process travelers around the clock.24.
