Amazon Studios has decided to move the television production of “Lord of the Rings” from New Zealand to the United Kingdom. The world’s largest online manufacturer has announced this to the New Zealand government. “The government was informed of this decision yesterday,” Economic Development Minister Stuart Nash said, expressing disappointment over the move.

“Amazon Studios intends to continue post-production work for season one in New Zealand until June 2022. Filming for season two will begin in the UK.” Nash said Amazon is looking to expand its manufacturing space in the UK and expand its presence there.

The American company spends $465 million on filming the first season alone. As a result, New Zealand is withdrawing a 5% funding grant from the Film Production Grant. Another 20 percent grant has already been used, according to the government. Amazon has been filming in Auckland since last year and employs more than 1,200 people in production, with another 700 involved indirectly, according to the New Zealand government. Positive effects on New Zealand’s economy and tourism have been expected over the years.
