13 civilians killed in Russian bombing of Dnipropetrovsk region
Ukrainian operator Energoatom warned Tuesday that Russian forces occupying Ukraine’s nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye are preparing to connect it to Crimea, which Moscow annexed in 2014, and harm it by redirecting electricity production. “The Russian army located at the nuclear power plant in Zaporozhye is implementing the (Russian operator) Rosatom program, which is aimed at connecting the plant to the power grids of Crimea,” Energoatom head Petro Kotin told Ukrainian television.
“To do this, you must first damage the power lines of the plant connected to the Ukrainian power system. From August 7 to 9, the Russians have already destroyed three power lines. At the moment, the plant operates on one production line, which is a very dangerous way of working. The last production line, the plant will be powered by diesel generators. Everything will then depend on its reliability and fuel stock,” Petro Cotten warned.
