Joyce Wright, an 83-year-old woman, was admitted to Boston Hospital (UK) after a bad fall. At the end of her hospitalization, while still asleep, she was taken by ambulance to a complete stranger’s home on Tuesday, it was revealed. BBC.
Paramedics allegedly used a safety key to enter the home and put the octogenarian to bed. Andy Wright, the patient’s son, said hospital staff did not realize the mistake until about 8 a.m. the next morning.
He continued: “It was dark and my mother was on painkillers and morphine, and things were a little confusing for her.”
“Very shocking” error.
According to her account, hospital staff admitted that they had mistakenly moved Joyce Wright to another patient’s home, her roommate’s. “It was someone else’s bed, not a retirement home at all,” Andy Wright insisted.
The latter also insisted on the “shocking” nature of this mistake and explained that the consequences could have been much worse. Joyce Wright is now back in hospital where she is receiving treatment.
For Andy Wright, the main reason for this error was the constant pressure on hospital staff, which called for a full investigation.
Michelle Harris, the hospital’s administrator, and Joy Welden, the facility’s director of transportation, expressed their “deepest apologies” after the error.
Lincolnshire Hospital Ambulance Service has launched an investigation into the incident.
