Tour of Britain: Olaf Quigg’s hat-trick wins stage three
Three riders took off from the start to form today’s breakaway: New Zealander James Foucher (Bolton Equities Black Spoke), Briton Harry Tanfield (TDT-Unibet) and Brazilian Nicolas Sessler (Global 6 Cycling).
After taking the points in the mountain classification, Foucher got up to return to the peloton. Tanfield and Sisler were then joined by three Saint Piran riders but the quintet were quickly caught by the peloton 35 km from the finish.
Germany’s Niels Bullitt (Bora Hansgrohe) was part of a group of nine riders who re-launched the breakaway, launching 18km from the goal, followed by Britain’s Matthew Bostock (Bolton Equities Black Spoke). The duo was finally swallowed up by the peloton 6km from the finish.
As expected, the victory came in a tremendously fast race, with Olaf Koeg being the fastest, ahead of his compatriot Danny van Poppel (Bora Hansgrohe) and Briton Ethan Vernon, who is participating in the British national team. David Pomboy (TDT-Unibet) was 10th and best Belgian.

Thus, Quigg (21 years old) scored his third consecutive victory in this British Tour, achieving the 25th victory in his career and the tenth this season. He also maintains the lead in the general classification, ahead of Van Poppel and German Max Kanter (Movistar). Wout van Aert ranked fifth.
On Wednesday, stage four will leave Sherwood Forest for a 166.6km route to Newark-on-Trent. The British tour ends on Sunday. Spaniard Gonzalo Serrano is the defending champion, succeeding Wout van Aart, winner in 2021.
