Luxemburger Kevin Geneitz (Groupa-FDJ) placed the first piece of the gang at the start of the Kirchberg climb (6% on average over 2km) with his foot within 3km of the final line. Fellow Madouas responded after the first regrouping and was no longer caught.

Maddus achieved his fourth success of his career at the age of 26 and the second in nine days after winning the Tour de Dubes (1.1).

The split at the start of the race, which took shape after six kilometers, brought together six riders: Belgian Gilders, Denmark’s Kasper Sogaard and Niklas Egg, Germany’s Justin Wolff, New Zealand’s Tom Sexton and Spain’s Antonio Jesus Soto. The attackers resisted up to 10 km from the last line and ascent of Stavelter Hill.

On Wednesday, the second stage being plotted around Junglinster is 163.4 km long and still has a fairly solid appearance. The successor to the Portuguese Joao Almeida will be known on Saturday at the end of the fifth stage.
