In the French supermarket, the “Spanish” olives did not convince this Spanish woman.
food – “Orange olives, tuna olives, shrimp olives…” In the supermarket, this Spanish woman who had passed through France found herself facing a whole wall of “specialties” from her country. So far, nothing unusual: it is common, in mass distribution, to have “world cuisine” sections that highlight foreign products.
If these little offers are useful for the French who are shopping, they sometimes seem ridiculous to those who come from the countries concerned. Proof of this is the TikTok video posted by the user @lauraterciado, a Spanish woman passing through France.
“I'm terrified”
It is clear that in the supermarket, one comes across a shelf of products presented as Spanish by the brand Sol SpanishBut in front of the kiosks she says to herself “aghast”, Like forThese are the reports of the Spanish edition of HuffPost.
On the wall are dozens of olive tins stuffed with all sorts of things. Shrimp, oranges, lemons, chorizo, almonds, garlic… specialties that, in his view, are very far from those that make up the Iberian diet. “Is this what the French think we eat?!” She jokes in the aisle, explaining that most of these specialties are nonexistent, except—sometimes—olives with lemon.
Comments ranged from surprise to nuance. “Orange?!” User asks. “This is what is not sold in Spain…” Let's assume another. Some specialties seem to be still known throughout the Pyrenees: “Those who have almonds and those who have cheese are in Spain,” Internet user identifies.
After this discovery, others went so far as to question everything: “This makes me think that what we bring from foreign countries, they don’t eat at all.” asks someone else under the video. As for Laura Terciado, there is no indication on her TikTok account that she has been drawn to these canned olives.
