Moldova’s main airline resumes flights to Moscow
Moldova Airlines will resume commercial flights to the Russian capital from 1Verse It announced in October in a statement on Friday, after seven months of shutdown in the wake of Russia’s military intervention in Ukraine.
This decision follows, in particular, “For countless requests from citizens of the Republic of Moldova in Russia”but also “At the request of passengers to use tickets purchased during the epidemic”adds the main Moldovan airline.
Before the Russian military intervention, Moldova Airlines served Moscow, Saint Petersburg and Krasnodar near Sochi (southern Russia). The company did not specify whether the last two airports were also affected by the resumption of flights.
Moldovan authorities closed the country’s airspace on the same day that troops from Moscow entered Ukraine, a neighboring country of this former Soviet republic, before reopening it on March 21.
Moldova, with a population of 2.6 million, has been an official candidate since the end of June to join the European Union. The 27 have suspended all flights between the Federation and Russia since February 27.
