Welsh Fire delighted his fans at home with a racy victory – and beat the London Spirit last in the process – on the back of an impressive 80-of-35 Glenn Phillips. Fire finished the second-highest streak in the tournament overtaking Spirit’s 163-5, which featured 72 bullets from 45 balls By Josh Inglis, with two balls remaining after Phillips saved the hosts 2-2.

Spirit watched in the locker room as Blake Cullen knocked out Tom Banton and David Lloyd for second ball ducks before Brad Will (3-30) took the main wicket from captain Ben Duckett, who played for six. But Phillips lit up the field with turns of standing and standing, filled with hitting the ball hard, especially when the ball was short.
Phillips brought his 50 balls out of 21 with one of the six balls, the choice of which was the maximum lead for Mason Crane. At this point, the shot still needed 51 out of 37 balls and Leos de Bloy (26), Josh Cope (28 numbers out of 15) and Qais Ahmed (13 no) finished the job.

“I’ve sat in front row watching this player the last few years in the Caribbean Premier League leading the Jamaican batting team Tallawe; he’s very, very strong and very feisty. He doesn’t need a lot of pat on the ball to be able to do that either – he’s He played on slow pitches and still managed to generate that paddle speed.
“He loves hitting through the legs, but he also has ramps and reverse shocks. He is quite a modern player. He wants to get back in the account to play in World T20, so he loves the opportunity to play in as many different conditions as possible.”

Glenn Phillips: “Scoring the first hundred at The Hundred was definitely on my mind but at the end of the day we are a team mentality first and we had to try to finish it and we did it with a few balls to play. It’s great to have so many people here, the COVID restrictions are a little bit more lenient which is something Amazing. The more you think about the stick, the worse it gets, so there’s a very simple game plan in place!”
