The first M3 Macs available in October?
It’s already been a busy year for Macs with the release of the Mac Pro, Mac Studio, and 15-inch MacBook Air. in his newsletterMark Gurman confirms that the year is not over yet and that there will be something new by the end of the year. The Bloomberg journalist understands that the first Macs with the M3 chip will be released in October.
We’re starting to see how Apple does when it comes to launching new Macs with a new generation of system-on-a-chip. The Apple brand will initially offer capable Macs content with a simple M3 chip. It makes sense that the more complex and more powerful versions wouldn’t be available until next year.
In other words, in the fall, the favorite devices to host the M3 chip are the MacBook Air, the 13-inch MacBook Pro (if the latter continues its career) and the iMac.
But why is Apple still selling the 13-inch MacBook Pro against all odds?
The M3 chip has to be engraved at 3nm, versus the “optimized” 5nm process for the M2 Pro. If the number of CPU cores and GPU should remain the same as in M2, on the other hand we will gain increased performance as well as better autonomy.
TSMC: 3nm will develop, 2nm in ambush
There is still a question that Mark Gurman hasn’t answered. Will the arrival of these machines be the subject of a special event? From time to time, in October, Apple organizes a keynote dedicated to its computers. This was the case in 2021, but not in 2022. One thing is certain: the arrival of these new computers should coincide in a few days with the arrival of macOS Sonoma devices.
