The doctor and science woke up
A video circulating on social media shows a scene that looks like a feast in a cult. Like praying in a solemn tone, that people engage in a semi-trance state.
Amazingly, this video shows students accepted into the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. they swear. Not the famous Hippocratic oath of doctors. They took a trendy oath in 2022, pledging to fight white supremacy, colonialism and bisexuality.
They clearly realize that they are acting on indigenous lands without coercion. They point out that what was built in Minnesota, including the university in which they are located, represents evil incarnate. So the colonizer must apologize for the existence of his ancestors and blame them.
But all this is not dangerous. It’s the fashion of the moment: a combination of a genuine desire to right the wrongs of the past and self-flagellation to look great. Hurricane Wake, which swept the episode of Caleb girlshits universities.
future doctors?
What’s really worrying is something else. These future physicians also swear to “honor all indigenous healing methods that have historically been marginalized by Western medicine”.
Here, I’m not sure I understand. Medicine is a science of evolution with evidence. Studies and research, over centuries, have determined what works and what doesn’t. The effects of placebos have been studied, except for beliefs, with the aim of extending the lives of healthy humans and relieving suffering.
Medicine is one of the greatest advances of civilization. Think about progress in infant mortality or life expectancy.
This must be said without any disregard for the methods that all peoples throughout the ages have used to heal people and reduce suffering. The aborigines, like other peoples, had made wonderful, well-relevant observations. And my grandmother, Georgiana, who has 16 children, also got her share of therapy and comfort items.
knowledge for all
But in 2022, medicine has become a global science. If original knowledge is overtaken by a more effective medicine, medicine must turn the page. If a plant used by Aboriginal people turns out to contain a molecule that heals beyond doubt, this new approach should be made available to the entire population.
There can be no two types of medicine.
The strange thing is that when it comes to climate change, the vigilante movement wants to shut down any debate by invoking science.
In other cases, when a minority right is invoked, they organize large masses to diminish the importance of science.
By the way, the French philosopher Jean-Francois Bronstein just published Religion woke up. Here future doctors solemnly promise to put their religion before medical science.
