The dismissal of the director of Algerian television because of the Moroccan national team

It was reported that the Algerian authorities decided to dismiss Cheban Lunakil, the general director of the General Television Corporation, for broadcasting pictures of Morocco’s victory.

Algeria is trying to obscure Morocco’s cosmopolitan prowess. Chaabane Lunakil was a victim of censorship imposed by the Algerian government over the participation of the Atlas Lions in the World Cup.

In a brief press release, Communications Minister Mohamed Bouslimani announced the appointment of Nader Boukabes as general director of EPTV. No explanation was provided by the censorship department nor by the Algerian media.

However, sources close to the television indicated that this separation comes after the channel broadcast the exploitation of the Atlas Lions against the Portuguese, without mentioning Morocco.

It is noteworthy that the same authorities have deployed police in major cities in the country to suppress any possible demonstration of joy by Algerian fans in favor of Morocco in the event of qualifying for the quarter-finals of the World Cup Qatar 2022. It is not permissible for the population to celebrate Moroccan sporting success despite the historical and geographical closeness that binds the two peoples.
