South Africa beat Australia in Sydney
The Springboks made short work of the Wallabies (24-8) who were nonetheless playing at home.
With its 15th renewal, South Africa avoided a third straight loss in Saturday’s rugby tournament in Sydney during the fourth day by dominating Australia (24-8), which they beat last Saturday (25-17).
The Springboks finished a streak of nine consecutive years without a win on Australian soil and moved up to second place in the standings, tied with their opponents today (9 points), one behind leaders New Zealand.
After two consecutive home defeats to the All Blacks at home (35-23) and last Saturday at Wallaby Stadium, the world champions got their revenge in South Africa, backed by a renewed workforce.
With four attempts scored, the Springboks recorded their second win in this rugby tournament campaign, and the first with an attack bonus.
Damien de Allende scored a third-place finish on the Australian cold defense (9th), before young winger Kanan Moody (19) scored his first attempt with the Springboks just before halftime, from his first pick.
The next third rower, Franco Mostert, justified the choice of coach Jacques Nenber by flattening the third attempt for South Africa (43) after returning from the locker room.
Makazul Mbembe, on the other wing, completed his team’s victory with a corner attempt, which was validated by video refereeing (71).
The Wallabies, who entered just 22 meters from their opponents after 30 minutes of play and countless hand errors, cut the score in the last minute thanks to Peter Samo (79th place).
Meanwhile, their opening player Noah Lolisio converted a penalty kick (32).
Undisciplined, uninspired on the foot and completely passive in Moodie’s attempt, the Wallabies were harmless during this meeting, which was punctuated by a few moments of tension, especially towards the end of the match.
