Six Nations Under 20: There’s also a Samnite whistle
Maria Giovanna Pacifico, of Montesarchio, was among the 12 best referees.
The international awards continue for Samnite Maria Giovanna Pacifico, who has been chosen to be part of the main core of the referee team that will run the 2022 edition of the U-20 Six Nations Championship. The girl from Montesarchio raised the bar once again to confirm her qualities that were also recognized by World Rugby. Besides the bell there will also be Clara Monarini, Maria Beatrice Benvenotti, Federico Fedovelli and Stefano Bini.
For Pacifico, a debut is close: they will play in the match between Ireland and Wales on Friday 4 February at Musgrave Park in Cork alongside Maria Beatrice Benvenuti as line referees in support of Sarah Cox.
This project, which aims to raise the bar for the whistles that will also have to referee at the Women’s World Cup in New Zealand scheduled from October 8 to November 12 2022, was explained by the Head of Referees Sector Development at World Rugby Red Nevas. “Teamwork is as important for match officials as it is for the players, which is exactly why we feel we can seize this opportunity ahead of the Women’s World Cup next fall. This Six Nations Under-20 Championship is without a doubt a great opportunity for our select group of referees to continue fostering important relationships On and off the field, he has accumulated a wealth of high-level international experience ahead of the World Championships in New Zealand.”
