Scott Dixon wins Nashville award, Grosjean retires

New Zealander Scott Dixon (Chip Ganassi Racing) took his 53rd victory in IndyCar on Sunday, taking the Nashville Grand Prix, round 14 of the US Championship, contested in the Tennessee metropolitan circuit.

All-time record holder AJ Foyt remains, with 67 wins, and the 42-year-old veteran driver is slowly but surely approaching. Scott Dixon claimed his second win of the season, after winning in Toronto last month.

In search of a seventh IndyCar Championship title, he’s more on time than ever to achieve it with three races, as he is now six points behind the general classification leader, Will Power (Penske), who finished 11th.

After the race was halted by no fewer than eight interruptions due to collisions and off-roading, he narrowly won over compatriot Scott McLaughlin (Pinsky), who had started from pole position 80 laps earlier. Spaniard Alex Ballou (Chip Ganassi Racing) completed the podium.

Romain Grosjean (Andretti) did not capitalize on second place on the grid, his best performance of the season in the playoffs. Returning to sixth place, his car was pushed against the wall by Joseph Newgarden (Pinsk) on lap 75. The Frenchman, who was forced to retire, then did not fail to complain to the American.
