Samsung has unveiled the Exynos 2400 chip that will power the Galaxy S24
We knew that Samsung was working on a new high-end SoC. Despite the excellent Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 being used in the Galaxy S23 lineup, the South Korean giant has been hard at work on the Exynos 2400, which will supposedly power some of the upcoming Galaxy S24 phones.
During the developer event, it was done LSI Technology Daythe group gave a first glimpse of its next-generation mobile chip, which integrates generative artificial intelligence.
The Exynos 2400 is necessarily more powerful than its predecessor, the Exynos 2200 built into the Galaxy S22. Samsung says CPU performance has increased by 1.7 times. It integrates AMD Xclips 940 for the GPU part, based on the latest AMD RDNA 3 architecture. The processing capabilities for AI-related tasks will also be doubled by 14.7. The ability to com.raytracingwhich was inaugurated by the Exynos 2200 and has not been mentioned much since, could also have been significantly improved, promising increased realism and immersion.
Samsung also introduced Zoom Anyplace technology which, according to the company, will allow, thanks to an image sensor with a resolution of 200 million pixels, to improve close-ups of a moving object. Samsung promises 4x zoom without image degradation via AI-based technology.
The Exynos 2400 will finally integrate a new generation 5G modem compatible with satellite networks.
This new generation has strategic importance for Samsung, which does not intend to lag behind Qualcomm and Apple. In the past, Exynos models were mainly aimed at European and Asian customers, who often felt disadvantaged compared to US buyers taking advantage of Qualcomm’s latest offering. In fact, some smartphones showed significant differences in performance depending on the chipset on board, with the Exynos 2200 showing mixed results.
According to the latest rumours, the Galaxy S24 Ultra is expected to feature a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset in all markets. The Galaxy S24 and S24+ should get the Exynos 2400 chip outside the US, as usual. Smartphones that are already making noise, but are not officially released until the beginning of 2024.
