Rugby World Cup 2023: New Zealand crushes Argentina and reaches the final

After dominating Argentina (44-6) on Friday, New Zealand became the first qualifiers for the 2023 Rugby World Cup.

The All Blacks are offering themselves a fifth Rugby World Cup final. They have three podium finishes (1987, 2011, 2015) and a second place (1995). In the final (Saturday, October 28, 9pm), they will face the winner of the match between England, who beat New Zealand in 2019, or defending champion South Africa.

Argentina opened the scoring five minutes into the match. Despite several good phases of play, the Pumas were unable to find fault with the opposition’s defense but benefited from a penalty kick taken by Emiliano Bovelli (5th) from the posts.

The All Blacks quickly reversed this trend with great teamwork. After a ‘kick’ on the edge, the full-backs passed the ball to Will Jordan who only had to settle it (11). In the next phase, after good defence, the New Zealanders put on a real attacking display that ended with a Jordie Barrett try (16th).

Five minutes before half-time, Bovelli thought he could give the Argentines a chance to breathe with a successful penalty kick after heavy pressure in the New Zealand camp (35′) but Richie Mo’unga took on the task of restoring the nine-point lead. His team on penalties (38). Shannon Frizell scored the Lions’ second try before returning to the locker room with the score 20-6 (42).

From the beginning of the second half, the Black team asserted its dominance and started with an attempt from Aaron Smith (42). The second one-sided action since Frizell (49′) and Jordan (62′ and 73′) scored the fifth, sixth and seventh tries for the insatiable New Zealanders.
