Rugby / News – Leicester Vainganuku leaves the Crusaders and the All Blacks: Thunderclap in the world of rugby!
Flaming All Blacks and Crusaders winger Leicester Fainga’anuku will bid farewell to New Zealand rugby at the end of the year. The 23-year-old, who has left an indelible mark on club and country, has chosen not to renew his contract and is now set to sail to new heights in France.
After leaving the Crusaders and all Blacks fans in shock, Fainga’anuku has been linked with several French top 14 clubs, including Clermont and Lyon. However, the Mediterranean club Toulon seemed to be the home base for the brilliantly talented winger.
Since joining the Crusaders Academy at the age of 15, Fainga’anuku has risen through the ranks to become a key figure in Super Rugby. Before making the decision to leave New Zealand, the dynamic winger made his mark on the tournament, especially during the 2019 season.
This season, Fainga’anuku was honored with Crusaders Player of the Game honors three times, a record in franchise history. His sparkling game also saw him reach the milestone 50 cap for the Crusaders, having achieved the feat just two weeks earlier against the Blues.
Fainga’anuku’s decision to leave the Crusaders and the All Blacks could be a crushing blow to both teams. However, the Crusaders have already secured the services of the talented Levi Omoa from Moana Pacifica to replace their star winger.
