Many car brands have lent their name to electric scooters or bicycles in recent months. I tried Citroen, Ducati, Lamborghini, Porsche or even the adventurous Hummer, sometimes through a simple licensing agreement, sometimes through a real investment strategy. For Red Bull, this is in effect permission to operate the brand by a third party, N + Holdings, an Australian company that has also developed bikes under Mercedes license.
However, it must be admitted that we are far from the simple sticker that sticks the brand logo on a generic scooter. RBS #01 truly offers a unique and practical profile. The machine relies notably on an all-carbon fiber chassis with a single-arm fork that follows the curve of an exceptionally wide frame. The rubber with a diameter of 11 inches is not less than 6 inches wide.
It is enough to provide a large contact surface with the road and to make the most of the 750W motor located in the rear wheel. With a torque of 80 Nm, let’s hope that the acceleration curve has been studied well enough not to hit the rear wheel at every start. This motor immediately bans access to the French public space for this competition scooter, as the machine’s top speed of 45 km/h easily exceeds the 25 km/h allowed in France. Four-piston hydraulic disc brakes were chosen to stop the RBS #01 in its tracks, which seems fitting.
To power it all, a 760Wh battery is tucked under the roof. What to get, according to its designer, is about sixty kilometers of autonomy. A fast charger is provided to recharge the battery in 5 hours. Driving the Red Bull Racing electric scooter feels completely classic, with a handlebar that includes an LCD display, accelerator actuator and a single brake lever.
A front light is integrated into the trunk and the brake light is elegantly placed at the rear. On the other hand, you’ll have to mourn your pants in case it rains, as the RBS #01 is devoid of real mudguards. Likewise, the photos show a smooth carbon fiber-covered surface, which provides minimal grip on the shoe.
It’s already possible to buy this one on steroids, but at $6,000, the Red Bull Racing RBS #01 is unlikely to run the streets.
