The South Korean military reported that Pyongyang launched an “unidentified ballistic missile” towards the East Sea, also known as the Sea of ​​Japan.

South Korea’s military said on Wednesday that North Korea had fired a ballistic missile, days after Pyongyang threatened to shoot down US spy planes that violated its airspace.

“North Korea launched an unidentified ballistic missile in the East Sea,” said South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff, using the Korean name for the Sea of ​​Japan.

Inter-Korean relations are at their lowest point. North Korean leader Kim Jong Un called his country’s nuclear energy status last year “irreversible” and called for increased weapons development, including tactical nuclear weapons.

In response, Seoul and Washington promised that Pyongyang would face a nuclear retaliation and the “end” of its current government if it decided to use nuclear weapons against it.

This year North Korea has conducted a series of weapons tests despite the sanctions, including testing its most powerful intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs).
