The New Zealand FA made verbal apologies but their mistake rekindled old scars. For nearly a decade in the early 2000s, the New Zealand Football Association denied the Black Ferns the status and means of a top team.
“This misstep in programming is yet another example of contradicting commitments that women’s rugby will now be seen as an important part of the rugby scene in this country,” the New Zealand Herald said. “It is hard to imagine that NZR will be so loose in their planning details when it comes to the All Blacks at the next World Cup.”
