New American and British strikes in Yemen
This is the second time that the British military has taken action alongside US forces since the start of strikes against Yemen's Houthi rebels on January 12.
The Houthi rebel news agency announced early Tuesday (January 23) that US and British forces were carrying out air strikes on sites in the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and in other areas of the country. Troops “US-British raids were launched on the capital, Sana’a, and a number of governorates.” The Houthi-run Saba News Agency reported in a brief alert in Arabic.
Washington and London confirmed shortly after that they had targeted eight targets. “Today’s strikes specifically targeted a Houthi underground storage site and Houthi missile and air surveillance sites.”was specified in a joint press release.
This is the second time that the British army has moved alongside US forces since the start of strikes against the Houthis on January 12. It is being implemented in response to repeated attacks by Yemeni rebels on commercial ships in the Red Sea, a vital region for global trade.
