NEOM thus becomes the flagship partner of McLaren Formula and Team ExtremeE, and for the first time, two series of 100% electric car racing are combined under the NEOMMcLarenElectricRacing banner.

McLaren will collaborate with NEOM in many areas, becoming a founding partner of OXAGON, a city in NEOM that will in the future be a benchmark for clean, cutting-edge industries and will also be an innovation ecosystem. McLaren is based within the OXAGON Research and Innovation Campus, designed by international architects, Grimshaw. The campus will provide state-of-the-art facilities and collaboration spaces, accelerating the implementation and commercialization of ideas from laboratories to develop industries and products of the future.

Another important element of the partnership will be launched in 2023 when, in line with NEOM’s commitment to developing Saudi talent, McLaren and NEOM will create a dedicated program to incentivize engineers and students; Twenty Saudi graduates from the NEOM Postgraduate Program will participate in a one-year internship with McLarenRacing at McLarenTechnologyCenter in the UK. This performance and development programme, called the McLaren Way, will help unleash the performance and potential of all NEOM teams through a range of initiatives.
This partnership is part of NEOM’s ongoing commitment to achieving sustainable motorsport goals in both Formula and ExtremeE, with both racing formats competing in exhilarating races around the world. Building on the successful relationship between NEOM’s key partners in the Mercedes-EQ formulas, the NEOM McLaren FormulaEteam team will be formed through the acquisition of the Mercedes-EQ Formulas Team, which is set to close later this year, and will see the defending champion team to be incorporated In the McLarenRacing family.
