Laurens Vanthoor 12 in the DTM 2 race at Spa
(Belga) Limburger Lorenz Vanthur (Porsche) finished 12th on Sunday in Race 2 of the DTM at Spa-Francorchamps.
After retiring in Race 1 the day before, Laurens Vanthoor could only limit the damage on Sunday. During qualifying on a dry track in the morning, his team decided to keep him on wet tires until the end of the session. A pick that hasn’t paid off since he started from 25th place. He still managed to climb up to 12th, but he didn’t score a single point at the end of the weekend. The away Ucclois Esteban Muth (BMW) also started in a collision when the race was replayed on the last lap. The victory on Sunday went to New Zealander Nick Cassidy (Ferrari), who won after taking the lead thanks to a mistake by South African team Sheldon van der Linde (BMW) while stopping at the stalls. Cassidy was able to resist during the last lap restart, after the race had been neutralized for the past five minutes. Like on Saturday, Austrian Thomas Breening (Porsche) completed the podium. The first race, Saturday, was won by Norwegian Denis Olsen (Porsche), Lorenz Vanthur’s teammate, ahead of German defending champion Maximilian Goetz (Mercedes) and Brenning. (Belga)
