[JO 2024] New Zealand – Colombia (0-2): After losing to France, the Colombians won
At the Parc OL (León), Colombia got the three points without much difficulty, but in a special style against New Zealand, which was almost non-existent throughout the match. A 2-0 win thanks to goals from Restrepo (27) and Santos (72) for the Tricolor.
In complete control
The two teams showed equal performance during the first quarter of an hour of play, most notably a move by Kitching (10th) in favor of New Zealand, without any danger. It did not take long for Colombia to respond, as Pavy (14th) – who scored a goal against France – created a scoring opportunity for Los Cafeteros.without result.
Pavy (19) had another chance to score a few minutes later, but he missed the target again, giving another reprieve to the struggling New Zealanders. The visitors finally opened the scoring just before the half-hour mark with a goal scored by Restrepo (minute 27) with a wonderful direct shot. The striker celebrated by paying tribute to Mayra Ramirez, who was suspended for this match after the red card he received in the last match against France.
Colombia dominated the end of the first half, and Marseille's Angelo players had one last chance to score before the break with a shot from Vanegas (45+3), but the attempt did not result in anything tangible.
Break to Colombia
After the break, the Colombians had their first chance with a direct free kick by Osmi (49th minute), which was blocked by a corner kick by the opposing goalkeeper who remained alert. Manuela Pavey (50) continues to put pressure on the New Zealand goal, but still fails to score.
Maine Michel players increased their aggression in the match and committed many mistakes, breaking the rhythm imposed by Colombia, but the guests maintained their focus and were able to widen the gap with the second goal, scored this time by Santos (72) who managed to equalize. An attempt by Izquierdo to return it through the straight position.
Colombia suffered a major blow when their captain Osme was taken off on a stretcher after suffering from stomach pains. The Colombian camp made several changes at the end of the match, to secure the defence and preserve the three points of the win, which pushed them to first place in Group A!
