In Dole, in the heart of the city, the Espace Pierre Talagrand TNA

TNA Architects (Thierry Nabères) and Serge Roux Architects handed over in 2021 to the Agglomeration Community of the Grand Dole (Jura) Espace Pierre Talagrand. The 9,600 square meter building includes a multi-sport event hall with amphitheatres, double gymnasium, ballroom, climbing wall, indoor and outdoor pools. Business volume: 25 million euros. To develop its downtown appeal, Dole has chosen an original approach by taking the strong and dynamic part to bring together in one place, in the heart of the 19th century historic city, important sporting districts. For schools and the general public.

The urban composition of Place Précipiano gives real richness due to the assembly of a perfectly regular form (a feature of Places d’Armes) offset by the interesting architectural diversity of its buildings of different profiles and eras.

The TNA project is part of this diversity, by presenting a strong fourth facade, unitary, and contemporary in its design, respecting heritage through its material as it is dressed in a burgundy stone with thick slabs.

The building is designed on the principle of a clear and legible distribution of functions at distinct levels. This vertical stratification, distributed by a circular core, around a fresco by Vasarely, which has been restored to its exact original place and dimensions, at the heart of the project, allows a good distinction between the different flows, without crossing in – beyond reception.

Four levels and four functions

Each level of the Pierre Talagrand complex has been assigned a function – ground floor, garden level, first floor, second floor …

The ground floor, at the same level as the courtyard, is dedicated to the reception, with a large atrium opening onto the square, very bright. All users of the equipment pass through there, regardless of their destination. Distribute all levels. It is somewhat similar to the “hub” of the equipment.

The garden level is the water world, with two pool halls that can be separated or joined together, and the north pool outside. Individual and group changing rooms with showers are assigned to each hall, avoiding crossovers of different audiences.

The first floor is dedicated to “dry” sports. It has three gymnasiums, a dojo, a climbing room … The organization of several changing rooms is similar to the organization of swimming pools. Whether in a group or individually, you enter a toilet room designated for the room you are going to, without crossing users of other rooms.

Finally, the upper floor has a powerful event dimension. On the one hand, it gives access to the honorary gymnasium terraces; On the other hand, it offers a multipurpose room, with a beautiful balcony overlooking Dobbs and large windows overlooking the gymnasium, which can accommodate receptions as well as the gym or yoga classes.

The basement is not visible to the users as it houses all the technical installations of the building.

Athlete

The double gymnasium with a length of 70 meters allows the practice of ball and racket sports of all kinds. The large competition hall is a replica of the original historic hall, with 500 bleachers, Mecca Doloa for handball and other competitions for ball sports of all kinds.

The 140-square-meter dojo is dedicated to martial arts practice, while a seven-meter-high climbing wall allows followers to experience the peaks of their sport. The latter was installed in a dedicated room adjacent to the double gym.

Aquatic: swimming pools

The Pierre Talagrand space offers three indoor pools, a Nordic pool and a splashpad, a configuration that can accommodate three different audiences at the same time. For example, we can receive the school audience in the billiard hall which includes an educational pool and a sports pool. The latter is a 25-meter long organizational pool where competitions up to the national level can also be organized.

Next to it, separated by large windows, the “Fun” hall welcomes the family audience, with a pool equipped with water jets and a splash pad area. This pool has an access ramp for people with reduced mobility, which is also very useful for lowering equipment for jet ski rides, water gym sessions, etc.

Meanwhile, the North Basin is for swimmers. It is a 50 m long basin with four water lines. It is located outside but you enter it through the airlock which is inside the building and the water is heated to 27-28°C.

If necessary, all the complexes can be open to the same public at the same time, eg in summer … the typical is complete.

Event

The air-conditioned multi-sports hall and its 100 m² terrace are more specifically for group lessons in gymnastics, yoga, pilates … It can also be used as a reception hall. To this end, it hides many advantages. A large window overlooks the honorary gymnasium. Another overlooks Dobbs and even Mont Blanc in fine weather …

Finally, the balcony of Espace Pierre Tallagrand gives real character: it is ideal for organizing club evenings, post-match receptions, public meetings …
