In Bakhmut, in the east, Ukrainian mortars tried to repel the Russian army

In eastern Ukraine, the bombing continues. Mortars, the elite corps of Ukrainian infantry, harassed Russian soldiers despite the danger.

In the midst of eastern Ukraine, bombs are falling like rain. This city in the heart of Donetsk Oblast, which was already bruised a few months ago, was once again subjected to clashes between Russians and Ukrainians. And in recent days, Vladimir Putin’s army has made gains.

In a secret location, a few kilometers from the front line, the Ukrainian response is being prepared. As soon as the Russian positions were spotted, the Ukrainian soldiers set off: mortars, the elite body of the Ukrainian infantry, harassed the enemies despite the danger.

“This morning we received a gift from Putin…a piece of shrapnel…we were lucky it didn’t go away!” Says a soldier into a BFMTV microphone.

“You only have… 4 or 5 seconds to save your life”

In the area, the bombing continues. Because their cars are luxury targets for the Kremlin army, the unit is forced to take cover along the road before returning to its combat position.

“If you hear a whistle in the sky, it means that you have to run very fast. You only have … 4 or 5 seconds to save your life,” explains one of the soldiers.

Enemy infantry, armored vehicles, artillery … As soon as the firing point is reached, the targets of the Ukrainian army are transmitted by radio to the unit, which has only a few minutes to launch as many shells as possible. Because the mortars are exposed.

One soldier sums up, “Drones can spot us. We can be spotted by sound too… We risk dying here.”
