He doesn’t want the convertible to NASCAR button
Having competed in three rounds of American competition as well as Le Mans on a NASCAR race car, Jenson Button doesn’t see himself committing to a full season with a saddled schedule.
At the age of 43, the former F1 World Champion (in 2009 with Brawn GP) does not wish to prolong his career at any cost, but remains curious about all forms of motorsport.
As proof of that, he was still at the start of the NASCAR Championship race last weekend, competing in the pouring rain on the streets of Chicago, a remarkable first win by New Zealander Shane van Gisbergen, who specializes in V8 Supercars and who was making his North American debut at the wheel of a car. Chevrolet Camaro from Trackhouse Motorsports, the car already driven by Kimi Raikkonen and Jacques Villeneuve.
Eighth in qualifying, Button struggled for a long time in the top ten early in the race in a Rick Weir Racing Ford Mustang, but was knocked out by another competitor as the challenger entered and settled for 21st.
