Game of Thrones actress arrested during climate protests
Dutch actress Carice van Houten, who was taking part in a climate demonstration organized by Extinction Rebellion, was arrested by police on Saturday in The Hague.
Dutch actress Carice van Houten, best known for her role as Melisandre in Game of Thrones, was arrested Saturday, May 27, during a climate protest organized by Extinction Rebellion in the Netherlands, according to local media.
The 46-year-old actress was part of a group of activists blockading the Utrechtsbahn section of the A12 motorway in the center of The Hague. They were protesting against Dutch fossil fuel subsidies.
The Dutch news agency ANP quoted Caresse van Houten, who had previously announced her presence at the scene through her Instagram account, that she was taken to one of the buses scheduled to evacuate the detainees.
In a video she posted on social media, the actress, known for her role as Melisandre in Game of Thrones, can be seen wearing a red trench coat, drenched in water hoses.
Carice Van Houten has already participated in these demonstrations several times, notably displaying the “summer is coming” sign, referring to the phrase game of thrones“winter is coming”.
