Formula E: Persistent victory for Pascal Wehrlein
Despite starting the Dariya ePrix from ninth on the grid, Pascal Wehrlein powered his way to victory in the second round of the Formula E season on Friday in Saudi Arabia.
The Porsche driver moved from sixth to second two weeks ago in Mexico. This time around, the German made sure not to disappoint by passing Sam Bird (Jaguar) on 30 of the 39 laps of the race. Wehrlein dove on the inside at Turn 16 to take control of the race.
Having also passed compatriot, Briton Jake Dennis (Andretti), winner of Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez, he remained in Wehrlein’s mirrors until the end. He crossed the finish line just half a second before his chase. The jumper completed the platform.
After taking pole position earlier in the day, Sebastien Buemi (Envision) had to settle for fourth. He and teammate Nick Cassidy picked up valuable points, with the New Zealander finishing sixth.
In the general classification, Dennis (44) maintains a one-point lead over Wehrlein (43), having set the fastest lap in Mexico.
On Saturday, the drivers of the Electric Series meet in the second round of the Daria E-Prix, which is still on the Riyadh street circuit. TVA Sports will be broadcasting everything at noon.
