France Television learned on Friday, April 29, that the French president of the European Agency Frontex, Fabrice Legere, had submitted his resignation, confirming the information received from AFP. The proposal to resign this figure on the impermeability of European borders, presented on Thursday, must remain so. “Reviewed by the Board of Directors”.
Frontex CEO since 2015, Fabrice Leggerie was targeted with a non-public report in early 2022 from the European Anti-fraud Office, according to the pointaccusing him of substance “Failure to follow procedures, disloyalty to the EU, personal mismanagement”.
This investigation comes against the backdrop of regular accusations, particularly from NGOs in recent years, of turning back illegal immigrants and complacency with the Greek authorities, for example, over brutal returns to Turkey.
Back on Wednesday, an investigation by Globalism And Lighthouse Reports showed that between March 2020 and September 2021, Frontex listed illegal returns of migrants arriving in Greek waters as merely “Departure Operations in Turkish Waters”.
