Explorers brave harsh climates for the sake of science
European explorers on the Deep Climate mission confront the rigors of extreme climates under the magnifying glass of scientists.
After 40 days of immersion in the Amazon and sojourn in northern Finland, about twenty men and women began a 40-day march in the desert of Saudi Arabia.
And so these adventurers go from arctic cold to desert heat wave and from wet to dry weather, under the eyes of scientists watching how they react to climatic conditions.
The 10 women and 10 men had already traveled to the Amazon at the end of 2022, before facing the rigors of freezing cold in Lapland, Finland’s northernmost region, last March.
And now the adventure leads these exploiters to Saudi Arabia, where they will walk for 40 days, each pulling a cart, according to what was reported by the “Quest France” website on Wednesday.
“We observe how they adapt, both individually and socially,” said explorer and researcher Christian Klute, founder of the Institute for Human Adaptation.
“These expeditions make it possible to study humans immersed in difficult conditions,” the Franco-Swiss researcher explained to the French newspaper.
