Do you also have to start more than 17 times before you can successfully place yourself between two letters of a word? Good news: there is a trick that allows you to install the cursor in the right place, without having to press the touch screen out of desperation.
This stunt is nothing new, but it is ignored by many – including within the Numerama editorial staff. However, it is crucial for a more user-friendly user experience: no effort is required to place the cursor on the correct letter or word. You just have to fill in the “space” bar.
Place the cursor with Android
If you have android smartphoneThe trick is to position the cursor roughly close to where you want to place it. Then, by long-pressing the space bar on the virtual keyboard, and then moving your finger left or right (always staying on the space bar), you can then move the cursor over a line.
Depending on how fast you move your finger on the space bar, the cursor will move faster or slower. Slow down to move from letter to letter or increase the speed of traversing an entire row of words. It will depend on the quality of your first placement with your finger on the touch screen. You can also substitute yourself if your first support is too harsh.
Place the cursor with iOS
on the side of theiOSThe process is similar, but there are differences in terms of user experience and interface. Thus, it is again possible to put the cursor in the right place by playing with the “space” bar with a long press. Then, the entire keyboard is used to navigate the text, not just the “space” bar as in Android.
iOS also provides an alternative for a more precise target. The method consists in long pressing on the entered text on the keyboard. This then causes a “bubble” to appear just above the finger, allowing you to lunge without missing a beat. The bubble has the effect of highlighting text that is always edited, giving it a sort of magnifying effect by aiming only around the cursor.
