Covid-19: Investigation after two deaths linked to batches of contaminated Moderna vaccines in Japan

On Thursday, August 26, Japan suspended the use of 1.63 million doses of Moderna’s vaccines against COVID-19, after impurities were detected in certain batches distributed across the country.

Saturday, August 28, the Ministry of Health was quoted by our colleagues from CNews It was announced that two men, aged 30 and 38, respectively, died after being injected with the second dose of Moderna’s vaccine, from one of three batches the government had halted.

According to the ministry, neither of them had any health problem or allergy that could justify a particular reaction to the vaccine. Only here, a few hours after vaccination, they developed a fever and did not survive.

Now is the time to highlight these deaths that cannot be explained by the investigation, although the ministry said “the causal relationship with vaccination is currently unknown.”

At least 39 sealed vials of Moderna vaccines deployed in eight vaccination centers, including one in Tokyo, will be affected by the presence of the contaminants. In total, more than 15,700 people have died from the virus in Japan.
