Former Lorient Joel Campbell scored the game’s only goal in the third minute of play, then the Costa Ricans managed to maintain their supremacy despite fear shortly before the break. But Newcastle striker Chris Wood’s goal was disallowed due to New Zealand’s foul at the event. In numerical inferiority after Costa Barbarosses was eliminated 20 minutes before the time, the “Kiwi” was unable to return to the match.
The Costa Rica is finally seeing the happy outcome of the qualifying campaign that began in June 2019. The Central American country joins Group E, where it will find Germany, Japan and Spain. Keylor Navas’ teammates will compete on Wednesday, November 27 against La Roja. This is the third consecutive World Cup participation for the Costa Ricans, who remained in last group position in Russia four years ago.
