EUR The natural photo is a reflection of scientific knowledge: the photo shows what scientists know and want to show, it is not just a copy of nature. In contrast to a work of purely artistic purpose, a naturalistic picture or illustration shows reality, makes it possible to identify the topic and take place in the discourse.
Over the centuries, artists have created true works of art that today constitute the crown jewel of the Museum’s collections. Thus natural illustration is expressed under the double sign of art and science, serving both disciplines. It is also a window to discover the natural world around us.
Decorated with many examples, the conference of Vanessa Damienthe, naturalist and scientific painter, will present the development of representations of natural history from the Middle Ages to the present day and the great names that have characterized these centuries, as well as the techniques, profession and approaches of the natural painter.
Meet at the Natural History Society headquarters in Le Creusot on Monday, April 4, 2022 at 7 p.m.
