America’s Cup President Kiwi Dalton: “My suggestion to Luna Rossa”

* Grant Dalton, CEO of Emirates Team New Zealand, spoke on La Stampa to Italian sailing enthusiasts and Luna Rossa. To the Italian team, one of Kiwi’s America’s Cup rivals, Dalton made a proposal to settle a feud that led to the same teams exchanging strong statements over a decision on two fields that should host the regatta Cups. . In short, fields B and C – those that allow a better view of the regattas from land, with a kind of natural runway – have been banned by the captain of the port of Auckland for 12 days, in order not to allow tests from the stage to be held there, the start of the Prada Cup, i.e. Competing regattas that will clash in the America’s Cup final with Team New Zealand. Luna Rossa contested an opponent, because it would have given an advantage to the kiwis, who during the Prada Cup period (an event in which they did not participate) could have trained on those same fields, and set up the boat in them in the best possible way, unlike the competitors, that they could only use them mainly in the Prada Cup semi-finals and – for those who would stand out from the round – and for the final (and training these days, the New Zealanders point out, as do American Magic and Ineos UK, marine traffic permitting). fpoz

I believe that sport can ultimately be a world to entertain and lighten people’s burdens.

New Zealand and Italy have such a rich history in the America’s Cup and a common spirit, that we have been united on several occasions with transparency and loyalty. It is therefore with great sadness that Emirates Team New Zealand are involved in this dispute with Luna Rossa.

We don’t disagree about having a meeting in February where the Auckland Port Authority gave a letter confirming its desire to close the port for the (only) preliminary rounds of the Prada Cup.

Represented at that meeting (Dalton probably referring to Cor, Challenger Registered, entity distinct from the team, Editor) when making the decision (to block fields B and C, Editor). What Luna Rossa (the team, editor’s note) says is that they were not informed of this decision, which at first glance appears to be an oversight on the part of their representative. If I had any idea this was going to happen, I would simply have called Max Sirena myself. There is a record of this meeting.

Luna Rossa referred this dispute to the arbitral tribunal (Third Panel, Editor) and won the dispute. But here there is only one loser, and this is New Zealand, who has been denied the opportunity to show ‘City of Sails’ (Auckland, editor) on television as well as New Zealanders, who have been denied watching the regattas from the various vantage points of the Inner Harbour.

To help address this, the defender is happy to refrain from hopping (therefore, training, editor) in that area on any day of the Prada Cup preliminary rounds so that he doesn’t have any perceived advantage over competitors.

This appears to be the most straightforward and fair solution and in fact the easiest way to solve the problem for the challengers, the government, the city, the fans and indeed the 36th America’s Cup vision and presentation by Prada.

But there is only one loser here, and that is that New Zealand is deprived of the opportunity to view the City of Sails on television and the people of New Zealand to watch from various vantage points overlooking the Inner Harbor.

To help rectify this, Defender is happy to rule itself out from region-navigating on any initial CSS day so it doesn’t have any perceived advantage over competitors.
