Team New Zealand: Tindall resigns

America’s Cup champions Emirates Airline have announced that Sir Stephen Tindall will step down as Chairman and CEO of ETNZ after a long and successful stint as manager of the four-time America’s Cup winning team.

Sir Stephen is known as an entrepreneur, philanthropist and investor. He is the founder of The Warehouse Group (in 1982) and recently retired as Director of the Warehouse Board after nearly 40 years. He has a long association with Emirates Team New Zealand having supported the team for over 20 years and Chairman since 2013.

He has been a captain through a number of developments, but most notably won the America’s Cup for New Zealand 14 years later in 2017 at the 35th America’s Cup in Bermuda and successfully defended the 36th America’s Cup in Auckland at the start. This year – on both occasions I have proudly displayed the New Zealand flag on the winning boats right after they crossed the finish line.

Despite retiring from the board, Sir Stephen will continue to be involved with the team as a sustainability ambassador for Emirates Team New Zealand to continue to lead environmental and sustainability initiatives, innovations with the team, such as partnering with The Warehouse and Toitu for Team Emirates New Zealand will receive Carbon Zero certification in the America’s Cup campaign Thirty-six.
