Germany classifies Great Britain as a “booming region”

All travelers arriving from this region will also be subject to a two-week quarantine period, which cannot be shortened even if the test is negative.

The Robert Koch Institute for Health Control said Friday that due to the spread of the Indian type of coronavirus on its soil, Great Britain will be classified as of Sunday as a mutation area for variants by Germany.

This would be the result of drastically reducing travel from Great Britain to Germany. All travelers arriving from this region will also be subject to a two-week quarantine period, which cannot be shortened even if the test is negative.

The German government will automatically follow this recommendation from the Robert Koch Institute.

Singled out the British government

In fact, from Sunday, airlines, buses and trains will only be permitted to take German citizens or people living in the country to Germany.

The United Kingdom is the first European country in a long time to become again a region where the virus and its variants are spreading. According to Germany, only eleven countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America fall into this high-risk category.

The Indian variant of the virus B.1.617.2 is particularly contagious and has contributed significantly to an explosion of infections in India in recent months.

According to British Health Secretary Matt Hancock, 2,967 cases linked to the B1.617.2 variant, the most contagious, have so far been identified in the UK, mainly in northwest England and in London, an increase of nearly 30% since Monday.

The government is accused of delaying tightening restrictions on travel from India in April, as the country saw an improvement in its health after a long and strict winterization of confinement and a massive vaccination campaign.

Avoid spread

If life slowly resumes this weekend in Germany with the lifting of many anti-Covid restrictions, citizens must test negative, be vaccinated, or recover completely to access many activities, such as eating in a restaurant or going to the swimming pool.

Germany on Friday reported 3,635,162 cases of the Covid-19 virus (+8,769 in 24 hours) and 87,128 deaths (+226), according to the Robert Koch Institute.
