In her new spacesuit, helicopter pilot and engineer by training, Sophie Adeno, prepares for a historic mission aboard the International Space Station (ISS).

Sophie Adeno tests her wetsuit

While training in Houston, Texas, Sophie Adino had the opportunity to test out her spacesuit for the first time. In an enthusiastic tweet, she shared her experience, describing this adventure as a dream come true. The pressurized suit will allow her to carry out extravehicular missions in accordance with the missions she has to perform on the International Space Station.

β€œThe coolest thing I did this week was test a pressurized spacesuit for the first time, with the same delta B pressure as if you were in space. Woohoo “, she shared on X (formerly Twitter). This suit is essential for flights beyond the International Space Station, where harsh space conditions require maximum protection.

Selection for the International Space Station mission and astronaut training

As a reminder, Sophie Adino was selected as the astronaut for the Artemis-II mission by the European Space Agency (ESA), demonstrating her impressive career as an engineer and pilot. Inspired by Claude Hennery, the first French female astronaut, she pursued prestigious academic training at the National School of Aeronautics and Astronautics (ISAE-SUPAERO) and at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in the United States.

While training alongside European Space Agency (ESA) astronauts, she performs extensive simulations and training to prepare for hostile space environments. From a swimming pool to spacewalks to survival sessions in a marine environment, Sophie Adeno is developing the skills needed to work in the microgravity of the International Space Station.

Physical and mental preparation for space

To maintain her physical condition in space, Sophie Adeno engages in a strict program of 2.5 hours of exercise per day. Yoga sessions, intense training and fitness are part of his daily routine to prepare for the rigors of space.

This physical preparation is essential to meet the physiological challenges of microgravity and to ensure your well-being during your mission on the International Space Station. During her training, the future astronaut was also able to benefit from the wise advice of Christina Koch, an experienced NASA astronaut, who has already flown six missions in space and spent nearly a year on the International Space Station.

While trying out the spacesuit, Sophie Adeno takes a key step: putting herself more than ever in the shoes of an International Space Station astronaut, a role she will assume in less than two years.
